Stand in the Way of Stares and Eve Teasing
Mumbai is a bounty of aesthetic, historic architecture; an abundance of diversity; a melting pot of art forms; a cluster of cosmopolitan designs. But sadly, rather than staring at these things, men often stare at women. As if we we were the only objects to be examined.
These stares make us feel uncomfortable and unsafe, diminishing our ability to navigate and live in the city every day. If only there was some step we could take to stop these stares, right? To tell men that they are not entitled to those stares or to our bodies. When there is a will, there’s a way. Watch the video below to see how you can literally “step up” against this issue.
Amazing how a little bit goes such a long way. It’s important to point out that staring, eve teasing, and harassment happen across castes and classes. It’s not only poor, dark men who stare, and it’s certainly not only light, middle-class men who can stop them. So, whoever you are, next time you see a creep: step up, or step over, to stand in the way of stares.
